with the simplicity of single scroll, garrett turbos and a cost effective recirculation kit and the option to custom add a cat (i contacted them) its an appealing option. We have ethanol everywhere in Iowa, but I'm considering retiring in a few years to a place where there isn't any. But I've plans I I thank you for the help. Right now I'm stock at 30,000 miles except for winter tires & wheels and an engine heater. I appreciate all the answers and enjoy learning about this. Also, Garrett has a slightly bigger turbo called a GTX 2860R (or something like that) that sounds perfect. I read Unabomber's piston faqs and he mentioned a forged piston alloy thats not as strong as the more common choice, but its got to be stronger the cast pistons and I'm not shooting to impress anyone on power. What I'd like to do in a year or two is have a block built to handle 350whp or so with very little piston slap on warm-up that will run for years with just normal maintenance. I'm not planning to build a monster and I'm still learning big time right now.

I keep reading that the stock turbo (a Garrett GT2259?) is out of its efficiency range with just a turbo back exhaust system upgrade. So unless you're upgrading the block, I don't know why you'd bother upgrading the turbo. The OEM turbo on the FA20 is more than adequate to push all the power that the stock block can handle. It's not like the old days when the small OEM turbos were the bottleneck. Many people are safely pushing the stock turbo to over 350whp and 370ft-lb TQ.
